Species: Fairy Tale. These are the physical manifestations of old tales and stories given form by the belief of the people who've heard or read them.
History:
Once upon a time there was a Roman dude named Ovid who wrote the Metamorphoses and within its second book contained the tale of Phoebus Apollo, who was told of his lover's infidelity by a loyal raven. Enraged, he kills his lover Coronis only to realize she had been pregnant. Filled with regret, Apollo soon turns his anger on the raven and curses it to be black and to lose its once-beautiful voice. At the time people read and believe in the story and considered it real--and from that belief was born Phoebus' Crow.
Created from fiction and belief, Crow was immortal and could neither age nor die. He was born in the form of a crow but could take on a human appearance if he so desired, but other than that he had no special abilities like the other beings created from fiction--Tales. Other Tales had gifts and abilities they could use as they pleased, but Phoebus' Crow had only the ability to serve. But oh boy could he serve. In fact he could do anything so long as it was an order, and very quickly Crow realized how he could use this to his advantage. AND THUS BEGAN 2000+ YEARS OF HIM BEING A HORRIBLE AND MANIPULATIVE DICK TO EVERYONE HE RAN INTO.
No seriously, he was awful. Crow took up a keen interest in collecting "Pieces" of his Masters and in manipulating them for his own amusement. Even as other Tales began to group and band together in small gatherings or communities, Crow preferred to remain alone and play his game of Master and Servant. From time to time he stalks and bothers the Sorcerer's Apprentice because that's always fun. But basically he just goes around and ruins the lives of everyone ever. If someone powerful's taking a very sudden downward turn? Phoebus' Crow is proooobably involved.
Personality:
Crow is someone who loves power and will be willing to do plenty to get it. Due to the nature of his ability Crow must serve a Master if he is to have any extraordinary power at all, and this is something he's generally pretty okay with. He will often seek out people he can manipulate or trick to some degree to serve, though he does not like or enjoy serving under foolish or dim-witted people. He has little patience for idiocy and prefers people closer to his own intellectual level to serve if possible. Whether or not he likes someone is not always a requirement either; Crow takes enjoyment in the misery of others and will willingly put himself under the servitude of someone who dislikes him if it will cause them displeasure. If Crow dislikes someone or wishes to cause them further irritation he may even decline a contract altogether if that's what's being sought.
But even if Crow forms a contract that in no way guarantees his loyalty. He'll do whatever asked without fail but he will usually only do what is asked of him. If someone's life is in danger he won't help unless ordered to do so, though he will most certainly give them the impression that he will through taking initiative and care in other areas with his Master. Above all else what Phoebus Crow enjoys is knowing that in some grand way, he has pulled the strings behind another's actions or fooled them into doing what he wants. Knowing that he orchestrated the situation and got what he wanted out of it is what he loves more than anything. He'll play whatever part he needs to in order to get what he wants, which is pleasure and enjoyment at the expense of those around him.
He also really, really likes eyes. He's got an eye thing...
Abilities:
Conditional Immortality: So long as his Story, the book-manifestation of everything he is, remains unscathed and undamaged, Phoebus' Crow cannot be killed. He still feels pain and discomfort but he can survive virtually any injury. If he was beheaded his body could still move around.
Shapeshifting: Phoebus' Crow can change forms between human and crow.
Adaptability: Due to his immortality Crow's body automatically adjusts to whichever "state" becomes normal for him. If he chooses not to eat he will not feel hunger. If he does not sleep he will not feel tired. If he decides to drink he will feel thirst, but again if he chooses to cease then so too will the need for it.
Servitude: This is Pheobus Crow's unique ability as a Tale. While he is generally powerless on his own (save the immortality and shape-shifting), should he take up the role of servant to a Master Pheobus' Crow gains the ability to serve his Master without fail. This mean he can fulfill any order he is given. If they ask for a castle? He can get it. They want to become a Prince? Done. Clean the whole house in fifteen minutes? Child's play. Whatever order is given to him, Crow can complete without fail. The greater his Master's desire and scope of imagination, the greater his power.
The requirements for Servitude however involve a sacrifice on the Master's end: they must choose something to "give up" to Phoebus' Crow. And not the material sort or something. Phoebus likes to collect pieces of people--hopes, dreams, memories, years, emotions, fears, that sort of thing. He's especially fond of Hatred, Regret, and Love. The general Rule is that whilst under Servitude Crow takes something of his Master's to keep as a form of contract: so long as he has that piece of them, he is theirs. If they fail to perform their duty as his Master the contract is nullified--only he keeps the spoils and leaves. If the contract is considered "fulfilled" he keeps it as well. The only way to have the piece returned is for Phoebus' Crow to fail in fulfilling his role as servant.
